pm {name} | | Some thoughts on paid services... (24th Jan 09 at 8:44pm UTC) | | So development of main features has been on hold for a while because I've been quite busy with other things like work. I currently have one idea though that will most likely be a paid service, and that is custom subdomains. So suppose right now you have the randomizer URL http://a.random-image.net/frufru/randimage.jpg . That URL seems a bit awkward and bulky to me.. .and what's with the "a"? So this feature will allow you to have a custom subdomain under any of my domains, so
http://yourname.random-image.net/randimage.jpg, or http://yourname.mrfrufru.com/randimage.jpg, or http://yourname.frufru.ca/randimage.jpg, or http://yourname.c172.com/randimage.jpg, or even http://yourname.r-i.ca/randimage.jpg
So such a URL will make all of your randomizer URLs look nicer, and you can get to your personal page by going to a URL like above, just without the "/randimage.jpg" part. As well, people with this feature will have controls reflecting it in their control panel. The yourname does not need to be the same as your username.
I am thinking of something like a $5 annual cost per URL. Payment will be by Paypal, because apparently, as a Canadian I can't be a seller on Google Checkout >.<
I don't think I'm going overboard with making this a paid feature. Apparently some sites are charging just for using a simple randomizer...
So how many people would be interested in this if I had it implemented? Other feedback & suggestions are welcome as well . I just wanted some input to make sure it's worthwhile, because it actually will take a bit of additional coding.
Thanks -frufru | |

And I also feel, when it comes to things like this, everyone should be treated the same, not 'paid user' and 'regular/normal' user. | |
